Three Killed in Rocky Hill Crash

Speed may have been a factor in the four-car crash

Three people are dead after Sunday's four-car crash on West Street in Rocky Hill.

Victims of the fiery crash included two elderly sisters, 81-year-old Viola Halamicek and 84-year-old Concetta Kotch. Matthew Stoto, 24, also died in the crash. The vehicle he was driving burst into flames.

"Oh my God, all there was black smoke, then all of a sudden, 'boom,' the fire started," Gail Herrick, of Rocky Hill, said.

In a third vehicle, three other people were injured. 31-year-old Amanda Williams of Seattle, Wash., 29-year-old Sara Beshir of Germantown, Md., and 32-year-old Carolina Gonzales of Somerville, Mass. Williams remains hospitalized with a leg injury. The driver of the fourth vehicle also received minor injuries and was treated and released from Hartford Hospital.

The road was closed from Sunday until about 3 a.m. Monday as police investigated. They believe speed played a factor in the crash.
