Top Federal Prosecutor in CT Resigns

U.S. Attorney David Fein is resigning after three years as Connecticut's top federal prosecutor, touting a wide range of prosecutions including child sexual abuse, financial fraud and civil rights.

Fein, 52, on Tuesday announced his resignation, effective May 13, saying he intends to return to the private sector.

“It has been an honor to serve as United States Attorney and to work alongside the fine women and men of this Office and of our partner federal, state and local law enforcement agencies as we serve the people of Connecticut and the country,” Fein said in a statement.  “Personally, it is the right time for me and my family that I move on, but I do so humbly and profoundly grateful for the trust placed in me by the President and the Attorney General.”

Fein has been U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut since May 10, 2010 and cited in a statement more than 60 cases dealing child exploitation matters that he had worked on, including cases involving a former Peace Corps volunteer convicted of sexually abusing young girls and a Colorado man convicted of sexually abusing children at a school he founded in Haiti.

Fein created a task force to crack down on financial fraud and a statewide initiative aimed at reducing gun and gang violence.

Four East Haven police officers were arrested on civil rights charges and the town reached a settlement mandating wide-ranging reforms of the police department.
