Town Approves $200,000 for Wethersfield School Security Cameras

Wethersfield's elementary schools will have new security cameras soon after the town government approved about $200,000 for the system last week.

The Hanmer Elementary school during the school year already has cameras to captures visitors that need to be buzzed in by school admission.

What the Wethersfield Public Schools are doing at Silas Deane Middle School and the five elementary schools is adding what superintendent Michael Emmett calls an "extra layer" of security, cameras strategically placed in hallways, and outside the schools.

Authorities can monitor the cameras live from the office or check what's recorded on weekends or evenings, Emmett said.
