Person Hit By Train in Old Lyme Killed

It was an Amtrak train involved, police said.

One person is dead after being hit by an Amtrak train in Old Lyme, according to Amtrak.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. near Old Shore Road and Amtrak Northeast Corridor and Shore Line East service was impacted for a few hours.

An Amtrak Northeast Regional Train #137, from Boston to Washington, DC, struck a 21-year-old man who jumped from a rock wall onto the tracks as the train approached,  according to Amtrak.

All train traffic was held through the area as local law enforcement officials investigated.  Train service resumed around 5:30 p.m., but Amtrak said passengers should expect  delays on Northeast Corridor travel between Boston and New Haven.

There were no reports of injuries to the 315 passengers or crew members onboard the train.
