Foxwoods Celebrates $3 Billion in State Contributions

The Foxwoods Resort Casino has seen a lot of winners over the years, and the state of Connecticut might be one of the biggest. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is celebrating $3 billion in contributions to the state since 1993.

The contributions are part of the Tribe's gaming revenue sharing agreement.

It's not all good news, though. Payments to the state have gone down every year since 2005, reports the Hartford Courant.

The recession has played a role in that, and so has increased competition from casinos in neighboring states like New York, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.

The Mohegan Sun's contributions to the state have also gone down in recent years. The chief executive tells The Courant he expects slot revenues to start growing again, as the economy does.
