Trooper Injured after Being Struck by Car

An intoxicated woman hit the cruiser, police said.

A state trooper was struck by a car while conducting a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 95 Northbound in Branford early Sunday morning.

Trooper Kevin Duggan was standing by a car he pulled over south of exit 53 when an intoxicated female driver struck the cruiser and the trooper was struck by his own vehicle, according to police.

The drivers of both vehicles and Trooper Duggan were transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital for complaint of pain. Trooper Duggan was treated and released from the hospital.

All three vehicles sustained heavy damage.  This case remains under investigation. Police said the woman was charged, but the charges were not immediately released.
