Two men are facing charges of stealing expensive electronics from boats up and down the Connecticut shoreline, then selling them online.
Clinton Police, State Police and the U.S. Marshal's office arrested Harry Nuemann at a home in Middletown Monday after a nine-month investigation. The second suspect, Brian Irizarry, was arrested May 26.
Nuemann, 25, and Brian Irizarry, 23, are accused of stealing GPS devices, chart plotters, fishing reels and other items from boats throughout Middlesex County, according to police. The thefts began in the summer of 2010, police said, and continued throughout the fall and winter months. Some boat owners didn't discover the items were missing until they readied their boats for the season this year.
Police said the pair put many of the electronics and other items up for sale on Ebay and Craigslist. The stolen goods were sold to people across the U.S. and as far away as Australia, according to police.
Investigators were able to link the sales to accounts used by Nuemann and Irizarry. The pair also opened accounts using the names of unsuspecting friends, police said.
Police executed search and seizure warrants in East Hampton, Old Saybrook and Middletown Monday, and found stolen property, along with other evidence, including computers, used by the suspects, investigators said.
Both men are facing larceny and burglary charges.
