Two Men Rescued From Capsized Boat in Westport

Two men were rescued from a boat that capsized in the water near Sherwood Island in Westport on Christmas Day.

Westport police officers responded to Compo Beach at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report that two men were in the water after a boat capsized. The police department's dive team rescued the men about a quarter mile offshore.

"The Westport Police Department and Marine Division would like to stress the importance of proper safety precautions when boating or operating a small vessel," police said in a press release. "Always have the proper gear on board and obey the small craft warnings when issued."

The men were taken to shore and did not require medical assistance.

The Norwalk Marine Division also assisted in the rescue.
