The University of Connecticut held a news conference on Tuesday morning about a new leadership initiative between the UConn School of Business and Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma.

Auriemma and UConn's business school are teaming up to hold the Geno Auriemma Leadership Conference, which will focus on best practices and creative approaches to business challenges.

The conference will teach people to lead today's and tomorrow's workforce rather than yesterday's, according to Auriemma,

"Times have changed," he said.

“Being passionate about leadership and sustaining excellence, I have been working with the UConn School of Business to develop a conference that brings together provocative thinkers from different fields to share their perspectives and provide insight into some of the challenges business leaders face today,” Auriemma said in a statement.

The conference will be held at Mohegan Sun on April 29 and 30.

William Simon, the CEO of Wal-Mart, will be the keynote speaker. Simon, who earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from UConn, will deliver "Leading in a Time of Crisis."

In addition to leading the UConn women’s basketball team to seven national titles, 13 Final Fours, four perfect seasons and 37 Big East titles, Auriemma owns Geno’s Fast Break restaurant in Fairfield and at Mohegan Sun, Geno’s Pub and sells Geno’s Pasta Sauce.

UConn alumni will be eligible for registration discounts. Proceeds from the conference will go to the UConn Foundation, Inc. and will benefit Leadership Education at the University of Connecticut’s School of Business.
