UConn Police Issue Alert

Storrs Campus Under "Emergency Condition" Following Robbery

UConn Police issued a crime alert Tuesday night after a random robbery on the Storrs campus.

Major Ronald Blicher said the masked crooks, one armed with a knife, demanded money from a student as he walked along Stadium Road near the Shenkman Football complex at about 8:05 p.m.

The student handed over some money and was not harmed. The men then ran off.

At 9:37 p.m., the police department issued an alert online and sent a text message alert to UConn students, faculty and staff.  Blicher said the robbery met the criteria for campus-wide notification.  He urged that students walk in groups and stay in well lit areas.

Police are looking for two men wearing dark colored shirts, approximately 5'8" to 5'10" tall, with thin builds.  If you have any information, call UConn Police at (860) 486-4800.

This robbery follows recent incidents on, or near, the Storrs campus.  Last month, two UConn students were sexually assaulted in two different attacks.
