Greenwichers Fuming As Traffic Cop Disappears

Saying the neighborhood has changed, some Greenwich residents are not happy with a change to the posh Greenwich Avenue.

The police department is pulling the traffic officer from Lewis Street. That’s not sitting well with high-end jewelers on the Avenue, reports the Greenwich Times.
The jewelry stores say they aren’t only concerned about traffic but security as well. The two-block area is home to several high-end retailers including Lux Bond Green and Betteridge Jewelers.
Representatives from the stores were on hand Tuesday night to hear the Chief of Police explain his decision to remove the officer a month ago.
Chief David Ridberg says the tough economic times and the department’s budget have forced him to cut back on non-essential services, such as traffic officers.
Some in Greenwich told the paper that if merchants are so concerned, maybe they should come up with the cash for private security officers.
Oh, Greenwich.
