Union Sets Vote on Stop & Shop Offer

There may be movement in the ongoing labor strife between Stop & Shop and thousands of its employees.

Local 919 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which represents 10,000 Stop & Shop workers, has planned a meeting Sunday to vote on a proposal by the grocery chain, according to the union's website.

The meeting will take place at The Bushnell at 10 a.m.  It is unclear if there is a deal between the union and Stop & Shop.

Local 919 and three other unions representing workers have given the company a notice to strike.  Another union, Local 371, is already past its strike deadline, but has taken no job action while negotiations continue.  All of the unions have given no indication they intend to walk out at their deadlines.

Both sides are trying to reach an agreement on health benefits, pension and wages.
