Vandals Cut Down Historic Town Tree

Douglas Fir in Washington found on the ground

The 30-foot Douglas Fir that used to stand on the town green in Washington Depot is no more.  State police said it appears someone took a chainsaw to the tree late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

The tree was still wrapped in holiday lights when it was found laying on its side on the town green, which is at the intersection of Bee Brook Road and Green Hill Road.

Police said they are investigating the case as an act of vandalism and they do not have any suspects.  They are asking anyone with information to contact the state police barracks in Litchfield at 860-626-7900.
