Vietnam Wall That Heals Coming to Bristol

Part of Memorial Boulevard will be closed from Thursday through Monday.

Memorial Boulevard in Bristol will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. on Thursday until 6 a.m. on Monday because the Vietnam Wall That Heals will be on display.

Both sides of Memorial Boulevard will be closed to traffic between Riverside Avenue and Mellon Street.

To avoid congestion, motorists passing through the area should seek alternate routes.

American Legion Post 2 of Bristol is hosting the display and said the wall is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It stands around 250 feet in length and is made up of 24 individual panels.

The wall has been on display in more than 400 cities and towns throughout the country,.

The main event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 11 at Memorial Boulevard in Bristol.

The Gold Star Recognition Ceremony will include the Wall Dance Routine and performances by the Laotian Dancers and the 102nd Army band.

Vietnam Veterans, Gold Star family members, Congressmen John Larson and many others are set to speak at the ceremony, which will end with the MIA/POW ceremony, luminary lighting and the playing of echo taps at dusk.

The public is welcome to view the wall, day and night.

Parking is available in the Memorial Boulevard School parking lot, South Street parking lot, East Street parking lot, Lower Willis Street and South Street, along the westbound curb line.

Handicap parking is available in the East Street lot.
