Visitors Enjoy Holiday Decorations at Governor's Residence; Open Sunday

The doors of Governor’s Residence are now open for the public to check out the beautiful holiday décor.

For the 27th year, the Governor’s Residence in Hartford is singing once again as part of its annual holiday open house.

“We call ourselves the church chicks we’re here from our church group,” Pam Euerle said.

Pam Euerle and her “Church Chicks” checked out the home Friday a moment she considers both bonding girlfriend time and a learning experience.

It’s so elegant it’s so different, we find wonderful decorating ideas as well as kind of a connection to the governor and Hartford,” Euerle said.

There are surprises from the moment guests walk in the entryway.

“We were greeted by Santa and his wife Mrs. Clause that was fun,” Susanne Lawson said.

“We love all the people who come through, they are always so excited to see the house,” Anne McAloon said.

McAloon, a longtime volunteer at the residence, says the six holiday trees each have their own flair.

“The trees are all Connecticut grown in most recent years many of the ornaments belong to the Malloy family,” McAloon said.

McAloon says while the trees keep tradition, the table setting in the dining room changes every year.

“This year it is decorated, Mrs. Malloy did the decorations with the family dishes and place settings,” McAloon said.

The Governor’s Residence is free to tour and open to the public Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
