Officials in Waterbury don't want Metro-North messing with their train service, so when the commuter railroad discontinued a direct morning run to Stamford, stopping instead in Bridgeport, they were incensed.
"We in the Waterbury area are putting the war paint on," said Rep. Jeffrey Berger. "We won't go down without a fight here."
The state and city governments plan to spend $2 million on the railway platform and parking lot. Two federal-level cannons, Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, blasted Metro North for what they called "neglect".
Marjorie Anders, spokeswoman for the railway, said, "We are reevaluating."
She said the schedule change May 11 inconvenienced some 40 passengers who went beyond Bridgeport, of the 140 who rode the shuttle from Waterbury.
