Waterbury Police ID Suspect in Synagogue Thefts

Waterbury police have identified a suspect in multiple thefts from a synagogue earlier this year.

Police said they’ve secured arrest warrants for 54-year-old David Britto, who is accused of stealing from the B’Nai Shalom Synagogue on June 8 and October 23.

Surveillance video from the October incident shows a man walk through the doors near the day care, rummage through the donation boxes inside one of the sanctuaries—along with a bag and other parts of the room—and start scoping out other rooms, too. The suspect made off with $20 in cash, according to the police report.

Britto faces charges of third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Waterbury police at 203-574-6941.
