On Friday afternoon, police said they located 28-year-old Anthony Rutherford in the neighborhood where the crime happened and took him into custody as a suspect in the killings. Police said he a handgun in his possession when he was apprehended.
Deputy Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo said Rutherford was in a relationship with Brodie recently and that relationship "became tumultuous" over the past few weeks.
Police did not say how the mother and daughter were killed.
Rutherford is due in court today to face charges, including two counts of murder, reckless endangerment, two counts of risk of injury to a child and a series of weapons charges, Spagnolo said.
