Search for Person of Interest in Waterbury Homicide Leads to Robbery Arrest After Police Chase

The search for a person of interest in a Waterbury homicide led to the arrest of the victim's boyfriend in West Hartford on unrelated robbery charges, according to police. On Tuesday, police said he was also charged with murder in connection with the homicide and other charges. 

Waterbury police officers were called to 96 Edin Ave. in Waterbury around 1:30 a.m. Monday after reports of a woman lying in the driveway, bleeding. The woman was dead when officers arrived.

Family members identified the victim as 33-year-old Nathalie Feliciano. Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

As police were investigating the homicide, Waterbury police developed information that a person of interest in the case was involved in an armed robbery on on Baldwin Street just before 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said the passenger in an SUV had a gun and robbed a man who was working on his vehicle on Baldwin Street and demanded everything in the victim’s pockets.

The victim complied and the suspect threatened to shoot him, police said. The suspect did not fire the gun, but pistol whipped the victim, got back into his SUV and left, according to police.

Police have identified the robbery suspect as Feliciano's boyfriend, 33-year-old Luisito Dejesus, and they have obtained an arrest warrant charging him with robbery and firearms violations in that case.

The detectives had developed information about the vehicle Dejesus was operating and broadcast it to all Connecticut police departments.

Waterbury police said he has ties to and Hartford police traffic officers saw the suspect get into his vehicle on Barbour Street, then there was a "well-controlled pursuit through several towns, Hartford police said.

According to West Hartford police, the Ford Explorer was spotted at a liquor store in the North End and Hartford police called for backup, but the driver fled before additional officers arrived.

That led to a chase on Interstate 84 and along several roads in West Hartford. Police used stop sticks and the chase ended on Simsbury Road in West Hartford, where the suspect was taken into custody, according to West Hartford police.

Dejesus was arrested on robbery and weapons-related charges. The homicide investigation is open and active, police said.

Sgt. Daniel Moffo, of the West Hartford Police Department, said they also have an active arrest warrant for him.
