Wethersfield Man Accused of Killing Mother Found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity

A man prosecutors say killed his 86-year-old mother and lived in the house with her dead body for several months was found not guilty by reason of insanity, according to court officials.

A three-judge panel ruled John Waszynski, 61, not guilty by reason of mental disease or illness. He was ordered to be committed to Whiting Hospital for further evaluation, a court clerk said.

The panel of judges is tentatively scheduled to reconvene on Oct. 6 to decide whether Waszynski will be released or committed.

Waszynski was charged with murder in May 2014 after his mother’s decomposed body was found in the home they shared on Stillman Road in Wethersfield.

The medical examiner ruled the cause of death as neck compression and blunt force trauma.
