A 56-year-old New Britain man admitted to committing a burglary in Willimantic after consuming alcohol and doing cocaine, according to police, and he was taken into custody Tuesday after a police pursuit and a police-involved shooting.
Police started investigating when a woman reported a man kicked in the front door of her Ashland Street home around 2 p.m.
Witnesses told officers they saw a man leave the home quickly in a black car. As officers arrived, officers saw a black Kia Rio with Rhode Island plates fleeing, so they tried to stop it but the driver kept going -- speeding, driving on sidewalks and passing by a school bus that was letting children off, according to the arrest report.
After police called off the chase, Ordro Fletcher, 56, lost control of his vehicle and hit an unoccupied car, flipping the other car on its side, according to police.
When police tried to box Fletcher in, he intentionally hit three police vehicles and tried to get away again, police said.
In an attempt to stop him, police officer broke windows of the car Fletcher was driving and fired gunshots, according to the arrest report.
The incident prompted an hour-long lockdown at all Willimantic schools.

Fletcher went on to say he did not want to go back to jail and was doing everything possible to avoid it, according to the police report.
He was charged with second-degree burglary, reckless driving and several other charges.
Bond was set at $250,000 and Fletcher is due in court in Danielson today.
