Windsor Considers Tightening Leash Laws

A dog might be man's best friend, but in Windsor, you might soon have to keep your best friend on a 6-foot leash when in public.

In Windsor, a pet owner can keep his dog off a leash if the animal is “under the owner’s control,” the Hartford Courant reportshttp://www.courant.com/news/breaking/hc-windsor-leash-1115-20101114,0,7437636.story. But, on Tuesday, the Town Council is considering amendments to changes rules that apply to pets after residents have reported feeling threatened or harassed by dogs and dogs biting people or other animals, Windsor Police Chief Kevin Searles told the Courant.

If the town council approves the ordinance, there will be a public hearing on Dec. 6 to decide whether pet owners need to keep the pet on a six-foot leash whenever they out in public or face a possible $100 fine.
