Woman Who Swiped Veteran's Wallet Comes Forward: Cops

The wallet contained several hundred dollars, according to police.

The woman who stole a veteran's wallet from Carvel in Torrington has come forward and the victim has decided not to press charges, according to police.

The 70-year-old victim bought ice cream at the Carvel on South Main Street on Sunday around 3:45 p.m., placed his wallet on the counter and accidentally left it there when he left the store, police said.

The wallet contained several hundred dollars, credit cards and even the man's veteran's card, which he needs to obtain VA services, according to police

A few minutes later, a woman and two boys walked into the store and made a purchase. According to police, the woman can be seen on surveillance camera taking the wallet and walking out of the store.

Around 9 p.m., she went to Torrington police headquarters to report that she took the wallet, police said. 

The victim has received his wallet and all its contents and has chosen not to pursue criminal charges, police said.

Police said it was because media published and broadcast the photo that the case was solved.
