Yale Receives $18M Gift

The donation is the largest the School of Drama and Repertory Theatre have received.

The Yale School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre have received a more than $18 million gift from the Robina Foundation that will permanently endow the creation of new plays and musicals for years to come.

"This extraordinarily generous gift from the Robina Foundation ensures that the School of Drama and Yale Rep will bring exciting innovation to the production of new theatre for generations to come," Yale University President Richard Levin said.

The Robina Foundation is a Minnesota-based private grant-making foundation that had previously gave more than $2.85 million in 2008 to Yale's Center for New Works.

Dean and Artistic Director, James Bundy, hopes the gift will inspire others to continue to support the arts.

"Nothing would please me more than to wake up Monday morning and to learn that a $20 million grant was given to another institution. This field could use a couple of dozen of these to honor the level of artistry that's out there," Bundy said.
