16-Year-Old Accused of Stealing FBI Weapons

A 16-year-old was arrested Friday in connection to the theft of two high-powered firearms from an FBI SWAT vehicle in Andover, Mass, according to New England Cable News.

A Colt M16-A1 Sniper and HS Precision Pro-Series 2000 Sniper Rifle were stolen from an FBI vehicle sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, the Boston Globe reported.

Law enforcement lifted fingerprints from another car that was broken into nearby and were able to identify the person connected to the series of thefts, they said.

Police recovered the firearms around 2 a.m. on Friday and arrested the teen around 11 a.m.

According to NECN.com, the suspect was with his father at Andover Police Department and cooperating with law enforcement for the ongoing investigation. The teen is charged with two counts of breaking and entering, one count of larceny over $250, and one count of larceny under $250.

Police were able to recover the two weapons in Lawrence, Mass., with the help of members of the public, according to NECN.com. A $20,000 reward was expected to be given out to those who helped with the recovery, but the FBI doesn't plan to release any more information about the informants in order to ensure future cooperation with the public.
