Airplanes Clip Wings at LAX

An arriving United Airlines flight and a departing Alaskan Airlines plane clipped each other while on the ground at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday night, an airport official said.

It happened about 7:50 p.m., as both aircraft were maneuvering in an alleyway between terminals six and seven, LAX spokeswoman Nancy Castles said.

United Airlines Flight 1199 had arrived from New Jersey and was carrying 163 passengers aboard as well as six crew members, Castles said.

Alaskan Flight 543 had 182 passengers on board and six crew members, she said.

All passengers safely left each plane, Castles said.

An investigation was underway to assess the damage and determine who was at fault.
