Two Amish Girls Kidnapped From New York Roadside Stand; Amber Alert Issued

Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for two Amish girls they say were abducted from a roadside stand at their family's farm in northern New York.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office says police patrols were out searching Thursday morning for the 6-year-old and 12-year-old.

Officials issued an Amber Alert for the two girls after they were abducted around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the rural town of Oswegatchie, which is on the Canadian border 150 miles northwest of Albany.

Police say the girls went to wait on a customer at the family's roadside stand. A witness saw a passenger in a white, four-door sedan put something into the back seat, and when the vehicle drove off the children were gone.

Both girls were wearing dark blue dresses with blue aprons and black bonnets. State police say the younger girl has a round scar on her forehead and is missing front teeth. The older girl is cross-eyed, they say.

Anyone with information about either of the girls is asked to call the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department at 315-379-2222.
