‘Making It Easier for the University': Anthony Scaramucci Resigns From Tufts University Advisory Board After Dispute

Scaramucci threatened a lawsuit over what his lawyer called a defamatory opinion piece published in the student newspaper earlier this month

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci has resigned from an advisory board at Tufts University after the school postponed a speech he was scheduled to deliver.

Adm. James Stavridis, dean of the Massachusetts university's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, said in a message to students that Scaramucci had resigned Tuesday from the school's board of advisers effective immediately.

"We thank Mr. Scaramucci for his past service to Tufts and wish him well," Stavridis said in a statement to NBC Boston.

In an email to NBC Boston, Scaramucci said he was "making it easier for the University."

Scaramucci was scheduled to speak at the Fletcher School on Monday, but a Tufts spokesman said the event would be delayed until "legal matters" are resolved.

Scaramucci threatened a lawsuit over what his lawyer called a defamatory opinion piece published in the student newspaper earlier this month that called him "irresponsible" and "an unethical opportunist" and called for his removal from the board.

The ACLU of Massachusetts said Monday it was advising Camilo Caballero, the graduate student who wrote the opinion piece and received the letter demanding the newspaper retract it, adding that the matter "seems to be one where the apple doesn't fall far from Trump."

Scaramucci is a 1986 graduate of Tufts.
