Bomb Threat Diverts United Express Flight from San Francisco to Phoenix

A plane that took off from San Francisco International Airport Thursday afternoon was diverted to Phoenix because of reports of a bomb threat.

United Express Flight 5573 left SFO bound for San Antonio around 3 p.m. but was forced to make an unscheduled landing at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, according to an airport official in Arizona.

The plane touched down in Phoenix around 4:45 p.m. Passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and put on buses.

It's still not clear whether there was an actual threat.

Officials were searching the luggage after passengers exited the plane, according to NBC affiliate KPNX. A bomb squad was headed to the scene.

Wednesday, a Delta plane bound for SFO had to make an emergency landing in Cold Bay, Alaska.
