Elderly Couple Weds in Wisconsin Assisted Living Facility

Jean Rohloff, 91, and Jim Mongin, 97, tied the knot Saturday

An elderly couple is proving that love is ageless.

Jean Rohloff, 91, and Jim Mongin, 97, tied the knot Saturday at an assisted living center. And their celebration of love turned into a community event that is inspiring many.

The pair lives at the Good Shepherd Assisted Living facility in Seymour, Wisconsin, according to Green Bay affiliate NBC26.

“I was calling bingo and that’s where I saw him every week,” Rohloff said. “I took him to the music in the park and he held my hand, and that’s where it started.”

Rohloff said, like most marriages, the couple started as friends, but after two years and a date, it turned into more when Mongin proposed five weeks ago.

“He called the next night and asked if I’d marry him,” she said.

Friends and family gathered at the celebration, embracing the life lesson that came from their special day.

“Knowing that he’s having fun, and he’s loved, and he’s living life to the fullest,” said Cathy Zehms, Mongin’s granddaughter.

Though the two have both been married before, their spouses have since passed on. Mongin said it didn't make sense to be alone now.

As for love advice, Mongin said to find someone like his new wife.

“She’s just the perfect woman,” he said. “She’s very kind, she’s always thinking of me and I’m always thinking about her.”
