Ferry Carrying Passengers to Statue of Liberty Makes Hard Landing

A ferry carrying hundreds of sightseers to the Statue of Liberty made a hard landing at Liberty Island Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

None of the passengers required medical attention, though three did suffer minor injuries, according to the Coast Guard.

The ferry, named the Miss New Jersey, made the hard landing into a pier off the island at around 4 p.m. The boat did not take on water and all of the nearly 500 passengers were accounted for, the Coast Guard said.

Coast Guard investigators will test crew members for drugs and alcohol and look for possible environmental or mechanical problems that may have led to the hard landing.

Statue Cruises says it's working with authorities and that passenger safety is its top priority.
