Florida Man Finds Giant Boa Constrictor Snake in House Attic

The homeowner said he believes the snake was once someone’s pet and got into the house by a hanging branch from a tree near the home

A Florida man got more than he expected when he tried to determine the cause of noise coming from the attic of his home and found a boa constrictor snake over six feet long.

Bob van der Herchen told NBC affiliate WFLA-TV Tuesday that his wife and son had complained about hearing sounds in the attic for several years, thinking the noises were coming from rats inside their Englewood home.

Van der Herchen finally went up to examine the noise and discovered the slithering creature.

“It took three and a half minutes for that snake to move into that rafter space…it was bigger than I expected,” van der Herchen told the station.

A snake trapper came in and removed the snake, finding some skin that had been shed and telling the family the animal had likely been living there for two to four years.

The homeowner said he believes the snake was once someone’s pet and got into the house by a hanging branch from a tree near the home.
