Man Dies in Crash With Escaped Bull

A Connecticut man died Friday when he struck an escaped bull with his vehicle, according to Vermont State Police.

Vermont State Police troopers responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the town of Killington around 10:22 p.m.

The vehicle was traveling west on U.S. Route 4 when it struck a large Scottish Highlander bull that had escaped from its pasture. Investigation revealed that after hitting the bull, the vehicle continued to travel westbound and went down a small grassy hill before colliding with a tree and coming to a rest.

The motorist, 64-year-old Jon M. Bellis of Woodbridge, Connecticut, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, 60-year-old Kathryn Barry, also of Woodbridge, was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment of her right wrist.

Vermont State Police are investigating.
