A minor league baseball pitcher is in very serious condition after being shot in the head in a drive-by shooting early Friday in the parking lot of a Yonkers Burger King, according to police.
Bullet casings littered the ground outside the fast-food restaurant on Central Park Avenue where the pitcher was shot just after 12:30 a.m., Yonkers police said.
His father, Jimmy Nolan, identified the victim as Mike Nolan, a pitcher from Yonkers who was drafted last year by the Oakland A's. He said his son, a Saunders Trades and Technical High School graduate, was also shot in the torso, and is now fighting for his life.
Authorities say the victim was standing outside his car with his friends when he was shot. Police say the suspect drove up on a service road and fired five or six shots at the victim before driving off. There was no return fire.

Authorities say the two may have been involved in an earlier dispute but police believe Nolan was an innocent victim. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.

Yonkers police called Nolan's shooting "senseless," adding he was of high regard in the community. Authorities are looking for possible surveillance video that may help lead to an arrest. Police said they're looking for a pale yellow two-door Honda in connection with the shooting.
Nolan was playing in the Arizona League Athletics, Oakland's rookie-league team in Phoenix. He was drafted in the 18th round of last year's MLB draft, but was placed on the restricted list for players not currently competing in July 2014.
