Mysterious Figure on Boston Building

A mystery that baffled Bostonians has now been solved.

It turns out that a figure on the side of the building formerly known as the Hancock Tower in Downtown Boston is a piece of art.

It's rising above the city, changing the face of an iconic building, and it's literally stopping people in their tracks.

On Twitter as well as the streets of Boston, lots of people are asking what it is.

As it turns out, it's a temporary art installation by the French artist JR. Each day, he'll add a little more until it covers six floors of the building, now known as 200 Clarendon Street.

But still - what is it?

"Looks like a man standing in a sandbox," said one pedestrian. "Maybe he's smoking."

"Now that I look at it, it kind of looks like someone walking down the pier," said another.

The project will be completed in November, so until then, people have to wait and see just what this artwork will be.

JR has traveled the world, putting up these mysterious pieces. He likes the fact that they cause conversation, and he utilizes the public atmosphere as an art gallery.
