Wife of Ex-Judge Says He Killed Texas DA, Wife, Assistant DA

Kim Williams Says Eric Williams Shot ADA, DA and Wife

The wife of a former North Texas justice of the peace implicated her husband in the shooting deaths of a local district attorney, his wife and an assistant prosecutor, according to court records filed Wednesday. An arrest affidavit revealed Kim Lene Williams told investigators Tuesday that her husband, Eric Lyle Williams, was the triggerman in the slayings of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, and assistant prosecutor Mark Hasse. McLelland and Hasse prosecuted Eric Williams last year for theft of three computer monitors. (Published Wednesday, April 17, 2013)

In an arrest warrant affidavit released Wednesday, Kim Lene Williams, the wife of former Texas judge Eric Williams, says her husband shot and killed Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, his wife Cynthia and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse.

The affidavit said Kim Williams confessed to her involvement in the shootings and provided police with details about the killings that were not released publicly. The affidavit also said Kim Williams "intentionally and knowingly cause the death of an individual ... by shooting him with a firearm" — legal language police said outlines her involvement in the murders without going into specifics.

Despite the language used in the affidavit, Lt. Justin Lewis, with the Kaufman County Sheriff's Department, told NBC 5 DFW that Kim Williams said her husband pulled the trigger.

In the news conference, Lewis did not describe the evidence against Kim Williams, only saying that she had been charged with capital murder and was being held on $10 million bond at the Kaufman County Jail. Lewis also said nothing of Eric Williams, who was arrested over the weekend and charged with terroristic threat, and who has now been implicated in the shootings by his wife. To date, Williams has not been charged with murder and remains jailed on $3 million bond.

The overnight arrest of Kim Williams, who has been described as frail from debilitating arthritis so severe it's made it impossible for her to work, was a shocking twist in the investigation into the murders. Even as the investigations narrowed on her husband, Kim had remained her husband's alibi.

Neighbors told NBC 5 DFW that they were in shock after learning of the woman's arrest and that, though she was ill, she had good days and bad and could be seen riding around the neighborhood on a large tricycle while her husband rode a Segway.
