Airman Makes Surprise Proposal to Girlfriend at Hunter College Graduation

Nadiya Vengreniuk didn't think her boyfriend could attend the ceremony

A Hunter College graduate walked off stage with a diploma and a diamond ring on her finger.

The unforgettable moment took place during Nadiya Vengreniuk’s graduation on Thursday.

Her boyfriend, Pavel Auxtin, is a senior airman stationed in Colorado.

Vengreniuk didn’t think he could make it to her ceremony after he disappeared Wednesday.

“I thought he was sick yesterday. He’s like, ‘I’m going to take a little nap.’ And then I didn’t hear from him for like eight hours,” Vengreniuk said after the proposal.

But thanks to some help from his parents, Auxtin not only surprised his future wife, but also got down on one knee and proposed in front of a cheering crowd.

"Will you marry me?" he said. She said "yes" and they shared a kiss on stage.

The happy couple met at Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. They’ve been sweethearts ever since — a bond they look to share for years to come.

“I hope for her to move in with me wherever I’m stationed next, and to continue our life together,” the fiancé said.
