A great white shark was spotted swimming off Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro, Massachusetts near swimmers on Monday.

The sighting was confirmed by a lifeguard plane that was circling overhead. Swimming at the Cape Cod beach was shut down for one hour.

This latest sighting comes following a busy week for shark activity off the New England coast.

On Saturday, swimmers at Nauset Beach saw a great white shark eating a seal near shore. The water was filled with blood, and swimmers were temporarily kept out of the water. Also on Saturday, a white shark was unintentionally caught in water off the Massachusetts. The 10-foot immature female shark was brought to Scituate after being caught in a gillnet.

Another great white - this one 6-feet long - was caught by fishermen off Rhode Island on Sunday.

And bite marks found on a whale carcass off Old Orchard Beach in Maine last week have been confirmed to be from a great white.

In the past week alone, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's Sharktivity app shows that there have been nearly a dozen shark sightings off Cape Cod alone.
