Study Confirms Universe is ‘Slowly Dying'

A new study that involved dozens of universities working together has more thoroughly documented what many scientists have known for years: the universe is "slowly dying."

"The universe has basically sat down on the sofa, pulled up a blanket and is about to nod off for an eternal doze," said Simon Driver, University of Western Australia, head of the research team.

While previous studies have also alluded to this fact, the international team of astronomers looked at over 200,000 galaxies, NBC News reported.

Findings from the multi-wavelength survey were presented at the International Astronomical Union General Assembly on Monday. The researchers said that energy being produced by stars and other objects in a section of the universe is about half of what it was two billion years ago. The fading is occurring across all wavelengths of light.
