Suburban Man Used Nude Photo Threat to Extort Sex, Money From Women

Maxwell T. Melgar, 18, was charged this week with attempted sexual assault and intimidation, both felonies

A west suburban man is charged with extorting sex and money from one woman and trying to extort sex from another by threatening to post nude photos of them online.

Maxwell T. Melgar, 18, was charged this week with attempted sexual assault and intimidation, both felonies, Aurora police said in a statement.

He was originally charged with felony intimidation after being arrested Jan. 27, police said. An 18-year-old woman went to police and said he threatened to post a nude photo of her on social media if she didn’t have sex with him, police claim.

Authorities arrested Melgar near Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue when he went there about 11 p.m. expecting to meet the woman for sex, police said.

During the investigation, authorities searched his cell phone and found evidence of a similar crime against a second woman, police claim.

Prosecutors claim that victim, a 20-year-old from Aurora, had sex with Melgar 15 times and paid him $500 so he wouldn’t post a nude photo of her online, police said.

Police said both women were acquaintances of Melgar, and had given him at least one nude photos of themselves.

Melgar, of the 800 block of Lafayette Street in Aurora, is being held on a $75,000 bond at the Kane County jail, and will next appear in court Feb. 25.
