Swiss Airshow Plane Collision Leaves Pilot Dead

Two planes crashed during an airshow in Switzerland Sunday morning, leaving a pilot dead, according to police.

The two small planes were flying in a formation of three German aircraft at the Dittingen airshow near Basel in north Switzerland when they collided at about 11:15 a.m. (5:15 a.m. ET), according to a statement from Basel-Landschaft police.

The 50-year-old pilot of one of the two Comco Ikarus C42 aircraft crashed his plane into a barn and was killed, the statement said.

The other pilot involved in the collision was able to eject out of his plane safely, while the pilot of the third plane in the demonstration was able to land safely, according to police.
