Community Rallies Around Teen Bullied on Facebook

By Tuesday morning, donations from Layne's supporters had topped $2,000.

A Tennessee community rallied around a teenager who was bullied after posting photos on social media of herself wearing her junior prom dress.

Kristen Layne, 18, was hoping to sell the gown when she posted the pictures in the Facebook group, "For Sale in Sumner County, TN," according to NBC affiliate WSMV.

Below the posting, a few Facebook users wrote "some very hateful things, just telling me I was fat and that I wasn't beautiful," Layne said to WSMV.

However, the teen's community showed her support in a big way.

The teen originally tried to sell her junior prom gown for $350, WSMV reported. However, people of Sumner County rallied to donate to a fund for her senior prom dress. By Tuesday morning, donations from Layne's supporters had topped $2,000.

Dozens of Facebook users also posted comments in support of Layne.

A Facebook user wrote, "It's obvious this woman is beautiful, inside and out," according to WSMV. Another wrote that the dress "looks absolutely stunning."

"I don't know how to say thank you to people and accept the compliments because it doesn't happen a lot," Layne said to WSMV.

Layne had a message to others who face bullies. "Don't let anyone break you down," Layne told WSMV.
