Zuckerberg Fires Back After Trump Called Facebook ‘Anti-Trump'

Trump's comments came days after Facebook said it will provide the contents of 3,000 ads bought by a Russian agency to congressional investigators

Facebook's co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg responded to President Donald Trump Wednesday after Trump called the social media website "anti-Trump."

"Trump says Facebook is against him. Liberals say we helped Trump. Both sides are upset about ideas and content they don't like. That's what running a platform for all ideas looks like," Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.

Zuckerberg also noted that the 2016 election was the first U.S. election where the internet was a "primary way candidates communicated" with millions of followers every day.

"The data we have has always shown that our broader impact -- from giving people a voice to enabling candidates to communicate directly to helping millions of people vote -- played a far bigger role in this election," Zuckerberg continued.

Trump's comments came days after Facebook said it will provide the contents of 3,000 ads bought by a Russian agency to congressional investigators and make political advertising on its platform more transparent. Several committees are investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Trump also said on Twitter that "the people were Pro-Trump!" He adds: "Virtually no President has accomplished what we have accomplished in the first 9 months-and economy roaring."

The Senate Intelligence Committee has invited Facebook, along with Twitter and Google, to testify regarding the Russian involvement, according to NBC News, but Facebook has not yet commented on whether it will accept.

Top members of the Senate panel have been scrutinizing the ways that the social media platforms and online ads were used by Russians to influence the election. Committee chairman Sen. Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, had called for a public hearing with the tech companies earlier this month. Twitter is scheduled to meet behind closed doors with the committee's staff on Thursday.
