Amazon Customers to Receive Credit From Apple's Ebook Price-Fixing Settlement

Settlement credits were applied to eligible customers' account on June 21

Customers who purchased an eBook from Amazon between 2010 and 2012 may be eligible for cash-back credit.

The credit comes from a settlement reached with Apple Inc. stemming from two class action antitrust lawsuits filed by state attorneys general in 33 jurisdictions accusing the tech company, and publishers Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Penguin and Macmillan of conspiring to fix and raise the retail prices of eBooks.

Apple was ordered to pay out more than $400 million in credits to eBook buyers, affected by the alleged price-fixing scheme, who purchased a Kindle book at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles and other retailers between April 1, 2010, and May 21, 2012.

Eligible customers were notified by Amazon via email and settlement credits were applied to their account on June 21. The company advised customers who believe they are eligible for credit, but did not receive one, to contact Amazon Customer Service using the "Contact Us" button on their website.

The credits can be applied to any purchases, not just eBooks, on Amazon.com or an Amazon app. However, the credits cannot be applied toward Amazon gift cards or certain subscriptions.

The settlement credits will be valid through June 24, 2017.
