Anne Hathaway Says ‘SNL' Helped Her Deal With Ex-Boyfriend Follieri

If laughter is the best medicine, Anne Hathaway got a healthy dose of it with her appearance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” last weekend.

Earlier this month, Anneʼs now infamous con man ex, Raffaelo Follieri, pled guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. He faces a potential 265 years in prison.

An event of this magnitude might send many celebs into hiding, but Anne has kept moving forward and told Access Hollywood Monday at ELLE magazineʼs 15th annual Women in Hollywood tribute that remaining in the public eye and addressing the matter was essential to her — along with having a laugh at it.

“I thought it was important to make light of the elephant in the room,” Anne said of her “SNL” appearance where she joked about her ex’s legal issues. “If we didn’t do it right off the bat, people might be sitting there wondering when we were going to do it — and if we were going to do it — and they might not listen to the show… and it was a great show.”

Anne also felt it was her chance to put the past beyond her — for good.
