Armie Hammer Joins “Snow White,” Saoirse Ronan in Talks for Title Role

Armie Hammer's two fine performances in The Social Network" continue to pay dividends.

Hammer, who played the Winklevi in "TSN" and is currently shooting Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar," has signed on to play the prince in "Snow White," Relativity Media announced today.

Lest there be any confusion, this is the "Snow White" to be directed by Tarsem ("The Fall," "Immortals") that already has Julia Roberts cast as the wicked Queen. Not the one with Kristen Stewart, "Snow White and the Huntsman." (Which appears to have momentarily lost its first choice for the Huntsman, as Viggo Mortensen has apparently turned it down)

As for the identity of Hammer's "Snow," Saoirse Ronan is in talks to take the title role, reported Deadline. Ronan clear loves to get her hands dirty, as she's about to be seen in both "Hanna" and "Violet & Daisy," as a young assassin, and will (likely) be heading off to New Zealand to appear in the "Hobbit" movies.

According to the press release, this "Snow White" film will be:

a retelling of one of the most beloved fables of all-time, will eschew the traditional story in favor of a more modern tale full of comedy and adventure. After her evil stepmother kills her father and destroys the kingdom, Snow White bands together with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarfs to reclaim what is rightly hers..

(Our hearts skipped a beat when we saw the subject heading on the Blackberry: Armie Hammer to play Prince in Rel... We knew there was no way he'd been cast to play the diminutive rocker, but it was fun moment.)
