Atlanta Braves player Hector Olivera was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted a women at a hotel in Arlington County, Virginia.
Police were called to the Ritz Carlton Hotel in the Pentagon City area just before 7 a.m. Wednesday after someone reported a dispute between a man — identified as Olivera — and a woman whom he knew. Investigators said the woman was visibly bruised and was taken to a hospital.
Olivera was taken into police custody and has been charged with assault and battery.
The 31-year-old left fielder was in town for a four-game series against the Washington Nationals.
Olivera joined the Braves last year. He spent the early part of his career in Cuba before defecting.
The Braves said Olivera has been placed on administrative leave effective immediately.

“We are extremely disappointed and troubled to learn of the allegations," the team's representatives said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
The team has recalled infielder Daniel Castro from Triple-A Gwinnett while Olivera is on the restricted list.
Olivera's bond has been set at $10,000.
"It's something that this morning you get told the news and it's disappointing," manager Fredi Gonzalez said before Wednesday night's game. "Don't want to comment on it because there's an ongoing investigation with MLB and the local authorities, so we've just got to leave it at that for now. It doesn't matter if you're 7-0 or 0-7 when something like that happens, it's not good."
