Aziz Ansari Responds to Sexual Misconduct Allegation

In the statement, Ansari said: "I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said"

Aziz Ansari late Sunday confirmed an encounter with an anonymous woman who accused the comedian of sexual assault on the website babe.net, and said that it was "by all indications completely consensual."

Ansari said he was "surprised and concerned" after he received text messages from the woman which said his behavior made her uncomfortable.

According to babe.net, a woman said she went on a date in September 2017 in New York with Ansari, who she called "aggressive." She said it was "by far the worst experience with a man I've ever had.”

The report included screenshots of text messages it said were between Ansari and the woman the next day. The image shows Ansari saying that "it was fun meeting" her, and the woman responding by saying the night made her "uncomfortable" and "uneasy." She added that he "ignored clear non-verbal cues; you kept going with advances."

In the statement, Ansari said: "I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said."

A text message screenshot shows Ansari replying that he "misread things in the moment" and was "truly sorry."

"I continue to support the movement that is happening in our culture. It is necessary and long overdue," Ansari added in his statement.
