Bill Clinton Warns of Giving in to ‘Lowest Common Denominator' on ‘The Daily Show'

The former president believes despite the overall negative tone of the campaign thus far, the country as a whole has reason to be optimistic.

Hillary Clinton's main supporter-in-chief appeared on "The Daily Show" with Trevor Noah Thursday and attempted to draw a sharp distinction between his wife and her Republican opponent, Donald Trump.

"Most of her strongest supporters are people who have worked for her or done business with him- they’re for her too," Bill Clinton said.

The former president believes despite the overall negative tone of the campaign thus far, the country as a whole has reason to be optimistic.

"America’s come so far," Clinton said. "We’re less racist, sexist, homophobic, anti specific religions than we used to be. We have one remaining bigotry. We don’t want to be around anyone that disagrees with us.”

The jab refers to Trump’s controversial campaign, which includes blacklisting and condemning media outlets that Trump feels have been too harsh or dishonest about his campaign.

Instead, Bill Clinton made the case for his wife's candidacy. He said she has a "proven record of making good decisions." He called it an important qualifier for any presidential candidate.

"If we give into this 'lowest common denominator,' 'everyone is our enemy,' 'tell me something bad about it or I don’t wanna know,' 'let’s divide, demean and demonize,' we could blow it all and we could lead the world in a very different direction,” Clinton said.

While Clinton was appearing on "The Daily Show," Trump stopped by the "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" where he let the host tousle his famous mane. Hillary Clinton is taping a segment with Fallon on Friday. It will air on Monday.
