Blue Bell Ice Cream Trucks on the Road Again

Homemade Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate produced at Alabama Blue Bell facility

Blue Bell ice cream is another step closer to being back on store shelves four months after voluntarily pulling all products April 20 due to a listeria outbreak.

On Tuesday afternoon, the creamery based in Brenham, Texas, tweeted its trucks were on the road again, filled with ice cream.

Blue Bell told NBC 5 Tuesday afternoon that their trucks were headed to distribution centers to begin building inventory and that they hoped to release more information about distribution plans soon.

"At this time we have not confirmed a date when our products will be available in stores," Blue Bell told NBC 5.

The company's plant in Sylacauga, Alabama resumed production last week after the Alabama Department of Public Health revealed it had "no restrictions" on the sale of Blue Bell ice cream made at that plant.

Blue Bell voluntarily recalled all products after its treats were linked to 10 listeria illnesses in four states, including three deaths in Kansas. The company halted production and started extensive cleaning and decontamination at all three plants.

There is still no word on when production may begin at the creamery's facilities in Brenham and Oklahoma.

A document released by the Alabama Department of Health showed they tested five samples of the company's iconic Homemade Vanilla ice cream on July 29 and another four samples on Aug. 4 along with a sample of Dutch Chocolate. None of the samples tested positive for listeria monocytogenes.
